Personalization
Finding the client's name
When you go to apply to a job, scroll down and find the "Client's recent history" section. From there you can find the client's name by looking at the reviews from previous freelancers.
In the screenshot below, you can see the client's name is Chris.
Cover letter
First two lines
When you submit a cover letter, make sure to include the call to action in the first two lines, and don't leave any spacing as the client will only see the first two sentences of your cover letter. They will have to click on your proposal to see more, so make sure it's a catchy call to action.

give yourself a boost
Don't forget to boost!
Let's face it, there's some competition on Upwork. There are 10's of millions of freelancers on the platform and hundreds of submissions for every job post. If you're not doing something to get noticed, you're likely getting ignored or your proposal is going unseen.
Boosting your job proposals will cost you 15 cents per connect. I recommend boosting by at least 50 connects per job post ($7.50) or 25 connects over the highest bidder.
The reason for this is that Upwork will refund your entire boosted amount if you don't get an eligible interaction from the client. Meaning if the client doesn't shortlist, message , or hire you then you'll get refunded.
